Queensland Academy of Sport

Daredevils

Love flying high? Want to take your sport to the next level? Is there a daredevil inside you just waiting to get out?

Aspiring athletes must be the age mentioned below at the time of the clinics:

Diving: 8 – 13 years
Skateboarding: 9 – 15 years
BMX Freestyle: 8 – 15 years

Do you have a young Daredevil in your life?

The Queensland Academy of Sport is partnering with three National Sport Organisations to launch action sport specific talent development and identification clinics for Diving, BMX Freestyle and Skateboarding.

These testing days will have a more sport-specific focus than our general YouFor2032 Talent I.D sessions with participants being assessed on skills and attributes required for these exciting action sports.

Diving, BMX Freestyle and Skateboarding are known as early specialisation sports where an athlete can achieve their highest level of performance before their maturation age, so the registration age is also lower.

Do you have the skills to fly through the air?
Do you have the drive to take your sport to a new level?
Is there are Daredevil inside you, waiting to show us what you can do?

Session Information - 2024

Diving – Athletes will attend a single Talent Identification session. Following the session, successful athletes will be invited to attend a two-week trial during which they will train with Diving Australia high-performance coaches. After the two-week trial, successful athletes will enter the next stage of the program and receive training and coaching support from Diving Australia and the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Skate – Hosting a series of 4x Skate Clinics across a range of locations. Athletes are invited to attend all four clinics in either Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane or Wide Bay. After the Skate Clinic Series, a group of athletes will be selected for the next stage of the program and receive coaching support from Skate Australia as well as the Queensland Academy of Sport. What to bring? Skateboard, Helmet, Padding, Water.

BMX Freestyle (Girls Only Clinics) – This year, we are hosting a series of clinics in the school holidays designed specifically for girls who are keen to pursue BMX Freestyle. It’s not just about learning tricks, but also about building confidence and a strong sense of community among female riders. The coaches will help young girls unlock their potential on a BMX bike, so they have the confidence to continue their own riding at local skate parks. By participating in our clinics, you’ll not only improve your BMX skills but also prepare yourself for future opportunities in the QLD talent pathways that will be launched later this year. What to bring? BMX Bike, Helmet, Padding, Water.

Please note that BMX Freestyle opportunities for boys will be available in our program at the end of 2024/early 2025.

Register now – we can’t wait to see what you can do!
