Queensland Academy of Sport
In 2024, the Queensland Academy of Sport is running a series of targeted talent searches, seeking exceptional athletes in specific demographics to address crucial gaps in our talent pipelines.
These events are seeking slightly older athletes who have a strong training history and the potential to transfer their abilities into a new sport. The sports targeted during these thematic searches are typically considered late specialisation sports, where athletes typically reach their peak performance later in life. We are not seeking experience in these sports, but the underlying physical capacities and the drive necessary for success.
Get ready to embark on the journey of a lifetime, where raw talent meets the opportunity to pursue Olympic glory!
This Talent Search is geared towards tall, strong, powerful women aged 17-25, who are 170cm or taller and have played or trained at a high level for at least 3 years in any sport. We are seeking athletes for a variety of sports including Archery, Athletics (throws), Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Rowing and Rugby 7s. This Thematic Search aims to pave the way for athletes to represent their country and achieve gold-medal success in a new sport.
This Talent Search is seeking strong, powerful athletes aged 17-25 with a background in explosive sports such as rugby, CrossFit and BMX racing. These athletes will be able to transfer into a new Olympic sport and achieve success relatively quickly, particularly in our target sports of Track Cycling, Rugby 7s and Athletics.
This Talent Search is looking for athletes with a Surf Lifesaving background (or similar sports) aged 15-23. Competitive Surf Lifesaving equips athletes with many of the capacities and skills required for success in several Olympic sports, in particular our targeted sports of Paddle, Triathlon, Rowing and Open-Water Swimming. These athletes are ready to try their hand at a new sport, while learning new skills and keeping up their fitness.
This Talent Search is on the hunt for female athletes aged 18-23 who have competed at a state level (or higher) in team or power sports. These athletes will have a competitive history in sports such as Football (all codes), Water Polo, Hockey, Netball or Basketball. This Search is seeking to fill key gaps in the pipeline for Rugby 7s and Beach Volleyball.
Age ranges are based on age as at 31 Dec, 2024. Applicants may only register for one event at a time. If you meet the criteria for several Thematic events, please attend the one which most closely fits you. If you are unsure which Search is most appropriate, please contact the QAS Talent Team at YouFor2032@dtis.qld.gov.au
Testing runs from April – June 2024 in South-East Queensland. Athletes invited to the next stage of the program will be notified in late July 2024, and will receive introductory training and coaching support from the National Sporting Organisations as well as the Queensland Academy of Sport.
The YouFor2032 Talent Search for ages 13-23 will resume later in 2024 throughout Queensland.
